Solar chips. Left loose or bedded in?

by decam0 » Wed Mar 14, 2007 8:29 am

We've just had our flat roof repaired. They've put on a layer of solar chips and left them loose. Is this correct or should they have been bedded into resin or some sort of adhesive?

Left loose should be fine. You can hot bed some into the top layer of felt but this is not necessary. If you live in a area with strong winds, you may need to redistribute the chippings every few years and clean the gutters out, otherwise the chippings will blow into the gutters, gradually fill them and collapse.

Hope this helps.
