I have just laid chipwood floor in the kitchen ( well screwed down to the joists). I now plan to put down reclaimed mahogany, it will be fixed by using a bostitch nailer, i have looked at various web sites which seem to contradict themselves. Has anybody got any useful input before i lay the floor?

We would suggest floating the floor. Laying one timber on top iof another in a hunid room like a kitchen will cause movement. Timber moves anyway, you only have to look at an old floorboard floor to see that so if everything is fixed tight and the wood contracts and expands it will probably split as it has no-where to go. Its not practical ( as we show in our project called replacing a timber floor) to fill the kitchen up with the wood for 3 weeks to get it to acclimatise to the humidity so floating it, in our opinion, is the best option.
