Soundproofing external door

by smacdonald » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:55 pm

We live in a flat that is close to a busy road. We get a lot of noise through the door and I can certainly feel the vibration.

I guess one solution is to replace the door but not sure what type of door is best and its expensive...

I have sealed the frame which has reduced the noise slightly and was looking into whether I could use foam on the inside to help with this.

Any help would be appreciated.

The simple solution is to mount another door, at least four inches away from the existing door, eight inches is best.
Make sure both doors fit properly, as noise will move through any gaps.
Almost any second hand door will do.
