Bit of background information, the wife has her own business, she does dog walking and doggie daycare/boarding. We have our own 2 dogs as well as 3-4 other dogs at any given time coming in and out of our home.
We live next door to a lovely old lady who has never had a problem with us in the past, but one of the dogs we've had recently has separation issues with her owner and has done nothing but bark since we got her, baring in mind we've only had her a couple days and we have her for 2 weeks.
So, she had a word this morning about the dog barking, naturally the unsettled dog has set the others off and it's been a bit of a bark-fest for a couple hours a day now. So I told her to avoid any incidents in the future I'd look into soundproofing or at least dampening the sound coming from any potential dogs we have booked in, great idea, however I have NO experience with this whatsoever.
We have a double garage that we have beds in for the dogs where they get access to the garden, this is fine in the summer but when it's cold or when we have dogs that aren't comfortable around other dogs we keep them in the dining room which we don't ever use personally, my idea is to soundproof the dining room, but since it's open plan, am I going to have to do the same to the living room also or will just doing the dining room work?
Also, to make this work, what is the best way to do it? I've done a little bit of research, is putting up a false wall as well as sound dampening foams going to be enough to block out most of the noise? We have no furniture backing onto the wall barring one cabinet and it doesn't touch as to not send vibrations. I know that much anyway.
