Summer House - paint before or after?

by SUSAN99 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 2:09 pm

Please settle a 'debate' my husband and I are currently having! We have bought a sea-house style summer house which we would like to paint blue. The question is, should it be painted before or after assembly? :!:

Hmmm, depends on what wood it is. If it is intended this be for outside use then it should already be pre-treated, unless of course it is something like Swedish Cedar which is normally left untreated as it naturally takes on a dull look after several years.
If I were assembling it, regardless of the timber I would treat before assembly so all surfaces are protected. Give it an extra dollop in those joints!

definitely before. easier, quicker, less messy and better protection. you can get into places that aren't even places until it's built!
