supporting joists when fitting new staircase

by vonspritz » Thu Mar 04, 2010 12:55 pm

I'm taking out flooring and cutting through joists to fit a quarter landing staircase in the corner of a room. The free ends of the cut joists will be supported by cross pieces to the other joists. Does the 1st floor also need to be supported by a pillar at the inside corner of the staircase?

David
