Hello everyone, first time poster here in need of some help please!

I have aquired some lovely solid wood sliding wardrobe doors with a track set. They were originally part of a wardrobe frame - each door height approx 2100mm. We no longer have the frame so we were hoping to fix tracksets to floor and ceiling originally, however the height difference is too great. The height of my ceiling is 2320mm, leaving a massive gap and nothing to suspend the top rail from.

The doors are top load bearing so need a way to securely fix track set to ceiling before I build a frame from mdf or plasterboard to make wardrobe look properly built in.

I have tried youtube and google for some answers but most tutorials seem to be for lighter or bottom load bearing doors e.g IKEA PAX doors or spacepro. I have considered wooden battening etc but am concerned that this would not support the doors properly?

I have found opening height reducers which you can buy but again, they are just flimsy bits of plastic to dont think theyd help much!

Most U shaped metal brackets I have found are max 40mm so would not hang down enough for rail to be attached.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, these wardrobe doors are lovely quality and it would be a shame to waste them!

It will rather depend on yourr abilities and tools you have available.

But it's a reasonably simple job. Your idea of using battening is essentially what you do but using 2 x 4 material screwed through the ceiling into the rafters above, you will need to make sure that they are up to the weight, but they almost always certainly will be. You then attach a suitable sized piece of timber to the 2 x 4 ( 2 x 6, 2 x 8, 2 x 10 etc to bring the height down enough to attach the tracks.

Then Robert is your father"s brother.

Thank you for your reply - I suppose when you think about it its that simple, I suppose I just worried about it bearing the load but I shall just make sure to secure it really well to the joists. Also nice and easy to cover with plasterboard for a neat finish
