Swap a 2-gang 2-way with a 1-way

by Saes21 » Sat Nov 19, 2022 10:30 am

Hi, I’ve got a 2-gang 2-way switch that operates the hallway and stair lights respectively.

I’ve brought a smart switch, which is a 2-gang 1-way.

Is it possible to swap the original with the smart without affecting the operation of the switches?

No.
Several reasons why you can't.
1) Smart switches are NOT 2 way (They have no need as you can also control them via app or voice (if you have a "smart speaker")

2) Most switch wiring does not have a neutral connection, as it does not require it.

3) Often you have to change the back box if you can fit a smart switch as the switch itself does not fit very well in a 25mm back box.

4) Something else.
