Three separate wires from ceiling when replacing ceiling light

by Eagleman » Wed Apr 27, 2022 6:22 pm

I am trying to replace a ceiling light and found that there are three sets of wires in there. In addition to powering the light from the switch they seem to complete a circuit as the bathroom ceiling lights are now not working. Any suggestions on how to wire this safely?

What you have there is quite common, what you have done is also quite common.
The cables need to be identified, since you have not marked the cables or taken a picture before you started, it is not possible to help you remotely other than to say you need a competent person in physically be there to do the job for you. I can tell you the cables are feed in, feed out and switch, but you need to find which is which, and don't guess as it will go bang, and the wire nuts you used, we don't ever use them in the UK.
