Tips on removing bath sealant from brickwork!?

by DeeH » Mon Dec 20, 2021 3:39 pm

Yes, you read that right!

My brick work above my windows has fallen a little, and I ignored it.

There was a an incredible rain storm, a few years back.

The gutters gave way, and the water was rolling down the brick, and gushing into my living room. I panicked, and the only thing I had to hand to
Bath sealant.

It worked! It stopped the rain. And I've since re-pointed the brick work.

But on the face of the bricks, is the stained white sealant, that's it really well attached to the porous bricks.

Are there any chemicals I can try, that won't further stain the bricks!?

Scraping is just making it look worse, and isn't really shifting it.

DIY stores sell tubes of silicone sealant remover, works well circa £5, but goes a long way if used correctly. Apply and cover with strips cut from carrier bag or similar then leave for a few hours or overnight, sealant comes off with wire brush.
