Can you wallpaper straight on to new plastered walls or do the walls need to be treated first

Hi, new plaster can be quite thirsty, so it is probably worth 'sizing' the walls with a weak wallpaper mix first and letting this dry off for a while, this will help when papering by not drawing too much moisture out of the pasted paper and allow easy 'sliding' of the paper to align it up.

There are proprietary plaster sealers you could use, but sizing should do the trick.

Bonding and finishing coats or plasterboard and skim?

If the former it's AT LEAST 6 weeks drying out if the latter you can work on it inside 24/48 hours.

Always size plaster walls before papering. Don't use PVA!!!

Hi, just read a post which said not to use PVA to size a newly plastered wall prior to papering. We've always used watered down PVA, why is this not a good idea? Thanks.
