Can anyone help, I have problems lighting my boiler first time, most of the time I get lock out and have to reset a couple of times before system lights. Recently had a new expansion vessel and the pressure valve fitted. Seems like it happens more if the system is hot, could it be overheating? Runs well when lit though.

It could be the spark electrodes need cleaning or re-positioning, this is where the spark is to light the pilot or main burner.

Haven't came across your boiler before,

does it have a pilot light ?
or does the spark electrode light the main burner ?
is it a fanned flue boiler ?

if it has a pilot, it may be the injector is blocked or the pilot needs adjusting, on some older boilers with electronic pilots the fan pulls the gas away before it can ignite this also happens with the flame the fan pulls the flame away from the thermocouple/flame sensing electrode.

Is it dues a annual service, if so get it done and ask them to repair this fault while they're there.

The Range Powermax, is now the Potterton Powermax/ Powerstore. Consists of a boiler sat on top of a cylinder in a single casing. There should be no pilot light but a spark electrode and it is a fan flued boiler as it uses concentric flue. Htg. engineer's suggestions are a good place to start. Spare parts are available through any interpart stockist but should be fitted by a Corgi engineer

Range Powermax is not the same boiler as the Potterton, the Range Powermax was a thermal store with a gas burner firing through it , it had a twin pipe flue not concentric.
Although the OP's boiler was sealed system some of them were open vented but being thermal stores they all gave mains pressure hot water.
Basically it used the tank of hot central heating water to allow for varying demand, it was capable of 56KW to hot water for short bursts yet could happily supply less than 500W at a low flow rate to either hot water or heating without constant cycling despite only having an 18KW ( 15.5KW output ) non modulating burner. Try finding a modern boiler with an effective modulation range over 10,000%!
