Transom windows for landing in new first floor extension

Post by Darren314 » Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:37 pm

Hi, im currently building a first floor timber frame extension to my current block and brick house, it's a bedroom above an existing utility, with access from the landing to the new bedroom, through the current window transforming it into a small landing with a door, there room trusses above the new extension which is going to be a storage room, now the issue is we've no natural light coming into the landing due to the new layout. My idea is to add transom windows above the new door and walls to the bedroom to utilise the light from there, my concern is whether this is possible as the extention is going to be cedar cladded and must have fire rated doors etc, could anyone possibly advise me on this? Thank you.

Hi darren314
You will probably have to fit wired glass, check with the building inspector.
