Twin and earth 1.5mm.....earthing the earth...

by mdemetri2 » Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:30 am

Ok, maybe a very silly questions to some, but....I have recently wired up some lights using twin and earth 1.5mm cable, but the halogen downlighters dont seem to have anywhere for the earth, can anyone suggest how I should earth them? i.e. are there any connectors I can buy to screw the earth into etc?

The down lights will not require an earth, so no terminal to connect to.
But do not snip the earth off, buy some plastic connection blocks and terminate the earth cables to them so they link between each light, this serves two purposes.
1) the earth continuity can be tested ( for inspection and testing )
3) if ever you change the lights to ones that do need an earth connection, they are still there.
and remember to sleeve them with green/yellow PVC insulation.

If they need earthing there will be a terminal, if none look for double insulated (class 2) symbol eg [[]]. if so sleeveearth and put in spare connector in case of later fitting changewhich may need earthing,

Great thanks for the replies people! Will just connect up to connector blocks as suggested and put earth cover over wires.
