My first post and, seeing as I've just bought my first house, probably not my last! I hope the people in the know can give me some advice (please!)
1. I have a 1920's mid-terrace house, which has the original roof. No felt. The roof seems sound but I can see 'pinholes' of daylight between a couple of the ridge tiles. I stood up in the loft space during a 30 minute downpour today and there were no leaks from here and none of the timber is wet/rotting. Looking at the ridge tiles from the outside, the pointing obviously needs doing but they also look a wee bit wonky. Given there are no leaks [i]yet[/i], should I just get them repointed or do I need to have them lifted and rebedded?
2. There is a skylight in the loft. It is a metal frame set in the wood frame of the roof structure and it is leaking, but from the metal window frame which has started rusting. The wood around it is dry. Bits of 'something' (sealant, putty?) between the metal frame and the glass have cracked/perished and fallen off and the water is tracking through. I guess it's the same on the outside. Can this be patched up? By me?
Any advice would be very welcome!
