vertical or horizontal Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

I am about to put rectangular wall tiles on a small low ceilinged bathroom and was not sure if i should lay them vertically or horizontally to maximise the room size. Any advice please?

Applying the wall tiles vertically will give the illusion of a taller room.

Applying horizontally will make the room seem wider but not high.

You could try drawing out the grout lines on the walls before you commit to tiling one way or the other.

Might save on heartache!!!
