Hi
We have a 2 bed victorian terrace house (1880s) with a chimney breast in each room. We use the front room fire regularly. The back room fire was boarded up and we recently have knocked it through to open in out. We would like to put in a log burner. However we have noticed that when we now light a fire in the other chimney, smoke leaks through into the other room. I believe it is relatively common for smoke to seep through between the old chimney breasts - and currently it is worse as the neighbouring chimney is completely open.
My question is when we have installed the log burner, the gap will be plated off so smoke leak will be minimal. Is that sufficient or should we also investigate repairing the chimney where the smoke is leaking?
Thanks
Best
