varnishing floorboards

by begglypie » Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:58 pm

ive just finished varnishing some floorboards in my new house - i applied 3 coats in all and it looks good! however in one corner of the room the "satin finish" is very matt and it looks very odd. this only occurred when i applied a third coat and the tin was getting very low. any suggestions on how i can rectify this problem??

Modern PU lacquers have glossing agents added to them to make them have the required sheen. These can seperate during storage and this is why they always advise people to shake the bottle. I personally decant all my product out after shaking the bottle into a dispenser, this eliminates this problem.
The solution is fairly simple, apply a fresh coat of lacquer over the top of the required sheen level. The final coat defines sheen level.
