What is an earth braid on a cable - how does it wire in?

I have a cable with an earth braid, rather than an earth wire.

How does this connect to a standard spur?

Is the braid simply sheathed and connected to a standard earth point?

HI , presume this is in a thin timber stud wall? this is becoming more common to meet regs , If so yes sleeve as if normal earth & connect to earth term. regards SPARX
