What Nails to use in Oak?

by goose » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:07 pm

Hello, I having oak window sills and architrave fitted, I'm wondering what nails/screws should be used to fit it?

(I seem recall seeing that certain types metal can react with the oak to prduce a staining)

Please dont tell me to use gripfit.

i would use stainless steel pins for architrave or if unavailable use sheradized pins, for cills i would pellet the cill then use stainless screws then fit pellet and plane then sand.

Great, thanks for the reply.

i a bit annoyed by the attitude of some of the joinery's near me, asking for advice and told to gripfit it. Also they used biro to mark out a curve on some of the sills for the doors.
