What's safe to use to fill in the gaps around a hot pipe? All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

I have hot pipes leaving the boiler and disappearing under the floorboards, but need to fill in the gaps around the pipes due to furry visitors coming through them!

I have some cheap mastic/sealant, or should I use expanding foam?

I want something which won't burn from the heat, and which the little furry squatters won't chew on either - any ideas?

It best if you use a mess, I think its zinc or something and you can get it at a good hardware shop.

Then cover with exterior filler.

It acts like reinforced concrete and the sods will not get thru it.

Last time I had to do it was about 10 years ago and I spent a week looking for and filling holes with mess and filler.

Get some mess for all your airbricks too.

It works and has soon has they run out of food they move on.

Loft insulation is good too (tastes nasty) but I think you may be on a lost cause!!

Personally I would go for a piece of Mars (oops can I say that) and somthing with a strong spring.
