What should a mist coat look like

Post by jdg600 » Sat Jun 27, 2020 7:13 pm

Hi,

I’ve just stripped back my living room walls to bare plaster. I’ve applied a mist coat of wickes white Matt emulsion watered down 2 to 1. Its the first time I’ve ever done a mist coat. The paint seems to have adhered to the wall alright, but when I run my hand over it it comes away covers in a fine chalky powder. Is this normal? Can I paint over the walls now or do I need another mist coat or ... what? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi jdg600
This doesn't seem right but perhaps it's a feature of Wickes paint. Suggest you try overcoating a small area and see if adhesion is ok once it is dry.
Regards S
