Which part of the hinge should be fixed to the door and door frame? Kitchens, doors, rails, stud, tables, chairs, stair cases, garden furniture etc... Find answers and ask questions here!

I'm installing new interior doors and was wondering if it matters which half of the hinge goes on the door and which half goes on the door frame, i.e. the leaf with 2 knuckles vs. the leaf with 3. The current doors don't seem to provide any answer.
