I've been told by a family members Double Glazing contractor that they use, that my UPVC french doors on my patio cannot be changed to newer type hinges, worse he told me that the butt hinges that are in place are non-adjustable. I successfully changed the butt hinges last year myself as 2 had broken, and i adjusted them to hang the french doors in symetry to each other.
So I felt like the guy either didn't have a clue what he was talking about or outright lying.
Anyway i was looking at the newer flag hinges, well newer compared to my 15 to 20 year old windows, maybe more. Then as i'm looking at a video of exactly what i intended to do, changing from the butt hinges to flag, and it got me wondering about the security of the flag hinges. My initial thoughts about why i wanted to change was that i thought that new meant more security inherent in the hinge. On further analysis of the differences, that it seemed that the flag hinges were more vulnerable to outside attack than butt hinges.
So is there any consensus on this forum about the security of different types of hinges for UPVC doors. Also generally what makes one type more attractive an option over another?
