We would be very grateful for any advice from anyone out there on Woodworm.
We had our loft professionally treated (sprayed with a Soveriegn Chemicals treatment) for woodworm back in August 2004. According to the company that undertook the work it was never a bad case but was active and seemed to be localised to where some rotten had been placed by builders. Anyhow, the whole loft was treated.
That was back in August 2004. Now we're in the process of selling and a recent survey has highlighted that woodworm is still active. Under the terms of the guarantee the company that initially undertook the work have returned to re-treat certain areas, this time using a 'deepkill paste'.
Now here's where the advice is needed: As we understand it, woodworm have a lifecycle of 3 years, so even if the treatment was done in August 2004, there would already have been the larvae/grubs crawling around in the wood and now, 3 years later in May, they’ve matured and are crawling out. This should now be the last of them as any larvae trying to eat in to the wood post-treatment would be poisoned. I think what we’re trying to say is, should the spray used at the time have killed the larvae/grubs deep in the wood, or is it correct that we seeing is the very last of the woodworm as it matures 3 years later, or should we be concerned that perhaps the company did not do their job properly.
