Seasons Greetings.

I want to make replacement hardwood doors and windows for my house.
What type of morticer should I be looking at? Bench mounted, floor standing, specification?
2nd hand worth a look? If buying 2nd hand any faults to look out for?
Also any advice on chisels?

Hi, firstly good luck with your project, It's great to hear about people embarking on projects like this!

As far as chiseld are concerned our opinion is that they dont come much better than the Irwin Marples range so take a look at these

These are as good as it gets but a little pricey. A step down, but with no real noticable drop in quality of cut is this range which is on a special offer at the moment with two free chisels also https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... -free.html

You will be using them a lot so sharpening the chisels is a consideration. We have just started working with a guy who makes the G-Sharp diamond sharpener here https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... pener.html

Take a look at the video, it's a great bit of kit and keeps the chisels really sharp very quickly with no oil-stone skills required.
