Installing Light Switch In Studding Wall

by gotabelt » Sun Dec 16, 2007 5:57 pm

What is the best way to do this? I am bringing the switch wires down from the loft. Is better to chase the plaster board out, cut out the cross stud and install flat conduit and run the wire down in the conduit and then finish of with polyfiller or something like. I would be interested in you suggestions.

You shouldn't have to chase out when feeding a cable down a stud wall. The only exception is if you need to cross a noggin. Just chase and cut a groove which will be no mores than 3" long then just plaster over. Make sure it is directly above the lightswitch though, so in future everyone will know where the cable is.

Just cut a square hole and use a drywall box for the switch.
