Refitting Plug Socket After Insulating bay Window

by chameleon001 » Sun Jul 30, 2017 6:45 pm

Hi,

In the process of house renovation, bedroom has timber frame bay window with plug socket in but no insulation in cavity. Naturally I want to insulate this during the refurb. My plan was to put kingspan/ celotex between timbers, then tape joints then visqueen over before 12.5mm boarding ready for skim. However I want to keep the socket that is on the wall. In terms of reinstating this after insulating, how to I get around the insulation/ get adequate depth for even a 25mm back box? Can I cut into the kingspan for box/ cables or should I batten out the PB to give space with a void between PB and kingspan or double up on plaster board?

Cheers,

Dan

Really up to up.
If you cut into the kingspan, then that would compromise the insulation qualities. So if that is not an options, you need create a void for backbox or an alternative would be to use a surface mounted box.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

The timbers are about 70mm deep so I could put 50mm of celotex, then I would have 20mm void to fit backbox, as long as having the void is ok in term of damp.

Thanks for all your help,

Dan
