Pier Foundation and Using Slate Tiles Information, help and advice on many architecture, self build and design problems and issues

hi, I'm having a home extension made and the builders have used slate tiles ontop of the foundation blocks as a base.
Is this a normal practice or should the foundation blocks be the same span as the bricks ontop.

What you have here my friend is an old form of DPC. It's mot used im construction today instead they use a manufactured dpc. Maily because it breaks down from soil acids and stuff like that. Look closely to see if indeed there is a Ruberoid dpc on top of it. The bricklayer looks like a tgood one but his grand dad has forgot to mention that its 2019

I'll doubt that it is an acceptable workaround by building control but without knowing the exclusive direction of the column(s) it's hard to make a clear evaluation and I could be wrong I have been wrong in the past or so my little pit viper tells me but she lies a 'best before' date on food sold in Lidls.
