Hi ,
I am replacing my old bathroom rad with a heated towel rail. Is it absolutly imperative that I drain down my system prior to the swap over or can I use freeze spray onthe pipes?

My heating system is a 20yr old oil Worcester boiler , and my system is vented(at leat i think it is , it has header tanks in the loft)

You better off drain it down.

You need to be careful with this radiator, it could be the by pass one for the heating system.

If it’s on all the time it properly is.

You can’t put trv on it and you need to leave the lock shields open.

its not essential to drain but if your not experienced at this kind of work it may take longer than thought and every freeze is follwed by a thaw?
play it safe and drain

I am not sure what you mean by bypass, but the rad has a TRV on it and can be shut off at present if required.

I have just plumbed in a complete bathroom and toilet room , so I'm reasonably confident , and have lots of freeze spray :wink:
