16th or 17th

by AndyB » Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:51 pm

I've been doing some major work on my house for the last year or so, including an extension. The extension being covered by building control. Included in the work are new electrics. The electrics are at the first fix stage at the moment. There will be a new consumer unit going in, and the second fix electrics, in the near future, but probably after the 17th edition deadline. Threrfore will my electrics need to pass the 16th edition or the 17th edition, for building control to be happy with, as the work was started last year.

To comply with 17th Edition you will only need to comply with 16th Edition that seems double dutch but the 17th Edition says "BS 7671:2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations was issued on 1st January 2008 and is intended to come into effect on 1st July 2008. Installations designed after 30st June 2008 are to comply with BS 7671:2008." But as to building control being happy that seems a contradiction of terms they never seem happy!

Yours Eric
