head pressure

by tony636 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 6:46 pm

:? hello guys, i need to increase the head pressure to a shower that i'm going to fit, at the moment there is about 0.75 meters so i was wondering if i was to put a small 4 gallon tank higher up in the loft (i have about 3-4 foot to play with) and ran a feed from this to only the shower would thatgive me more pressure, or is there another way of doing it other than a pump. thank you.

Yes, it would give a little more pressure, but the problem is, it won't work.

Firstly, the tank being so small, would empty in no time and the shower would stop. More importantly, the hot water cannot be fed from that tank so would come from the lower tank and still suffer from the low pressure problem you are trying to avoid. In fact, it may not even work at all, because the cold water would just back feed up the hot pipe. Also, there is a scalding risk if the cold runs out and the hot does not.

Either raise the existing cold storage tank as high as possible or fit a shower booster pump.

Pump it!
