Drylining a hugely un-even surface.

My house is built out of huge stones which in our diningroom are on show. This has for four years been great and added character to the property but frankly we are sick of the site of them now and just want a nice smooth, clean wall. From investigating it, it seems that dry lining the walls is the best solution. My issue is I want to use frame rather than dot n dab so that in the future someone can access the original stone walls if they wish to, but the stone wall is incredibly un even and I can only imagine that leveling frame work is going to be a complete nightmare.

Advise Please. Or maybe a better but completely different way of covering up the wall.

Any advise greatfully recieved.

You could make a frame slightly away from the wall and fix to the ceiling and floor then you wont be touching the wall at all. You would lose an extra bit of the room by doing this but it would solve your problem.
You could pack the back of the frame to give it a bit more stability too.

Great, sounds like a plan. Thanks for advise, common logic at it's finest!
