Problem with Washing Machine Waste Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

Hi,

Since we moved into our newish house we have a problem with the washing machine waste slightly overflowing the standpipe.

The waste comes out of the back of the machine then loops up and over (with a U shaped holder) and into a standpipe (approx. 1m high, 50mm diameter). There doesn't appear to be any kind of a blockage and it only leaks a small amount of water each time (but enough to be messy/annoying).

Do you think the w/m could be pumping the water out too fast for the drain?

Would it help if we changed the standpipe to a bigger diameter?

Any ideas would be most gratefully received! :)

The standpipe should cope with the output of the washing machine so as it isn't it would suggest something is wrong. The pipe diameter should be 40mm (1.5") and a larger size is not available.

You don't describe the layout so it is a bit difficult to offer advice, but the overflow is most likely caused by a blockage, insufficient fall, too long a run or uneven pipe levels.

That's a point, can you hear the standpipe filling up or is it just splashing over?

Hi,

The standpipe is approx. 700mm from the floor to the top.

The washing machine waste has to come through the wall and into a cupboard adjacent. It looks like the standpipe connects directly into the Svp through a floor socket ( hopefully if i have pasted this correctly you will se a photo!!).

It's just splashing over. It never does it whilst I'm watching so I think its just occasionally during the wash cycle.
