Painting plaster

by sparkly123 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 9:04 pm

Recently had a ceiling plastered, and the plasterer said it would be ready to paint within a few days. We waited until it looked completly dry. We then painted it, after 2coats it was still patchy, not realising you had to water down the paint first, im worried that the paint is going to fall off now, is there anything i can do?

Hi, you should have put a mist coat on first as you now know. It is possible that the paint you have put on has not adhered properly to the ceiling and this will cause it to peel or bubble in places when you put on another coat. Not a lot you can do about it unless you want to see if it scrapes off easily. You could just put on another coat and see what happens, you may be lucky if the paint you used was not too thick and has adhered a bit.

Hello,
yes theshedman is right you have to do coating first then you have to paint on that.mist coat helps to fill all type of things that remained in that plastering.

good luck!!

Did you have a few drinks when you wrote this

To clear up yes shed man was/is correct. A thin coat will absorb into the surface more, take more hold rather than sit on the surface, quite like a siv.
