power shower wiring setup

by wolfytom » Tue Jul 03, 2007 12:04 am

I'm installing a mira thermostatic power shower. This needs a supply only for the internal pump. It does not heat water.

I have fitted a FCU with built in RCD, in the airing cupboard, taking its supply from the socket circuit. I have used 1mm twin core and earth.

From the FCU the cable goes to a 40 amp pull switch with neon indicator and from there to the shower.

The main consumer unit has a built in rccd for the socket circuit.

The instruction manual states that...
230–240 V, 50 Hz, fused at 3 Amps, via a double
pole switched fused connection unit (not supplied) with a minimum 3mm
contact separation in each pole.
A 30 mA residual current device (RCD) must be fitted. This may be part of the consumer unit or a separate unit.

Before I switch it on, can you tell me if my setup sounds about right???

Any advice is much appreciated - thanks in anticipation

Andy

I know about the need for a leckie - I just asked for a bit of advice.

If everyone answers like you have the forum will cease to exist. Can't you provide some practical advice and leave me to make the judgement call?

You need to cross bond your new feed to the shower pump with everything else in the bathroom!
Apart from that it sounds ok.

the forum is here to help those who want to do it right, & I presume you make 'judgement calls' abt lighting up in pub, doing 90 through the high street, parking on ped. crossings etc?
Blakey's telling it like it is, he (& I ) have to; if you know better why ask?
You could have saved not spent money if you had used leckie as he would not have fitted unneccessary RCD spur and expensive 40A pull sw. you didn't need!!!
Take heart Blakey, some want to learn, some are willing to learn & some........

SPARX.
I HAVE FOLLOWED THE TRAIL ON OUR FORUM AND FULLY
UNDERSTAND WHAT WOLFYTOM WAS TRYING TO UNDERTAKE,
AFTER READING HIS INPUT. I HOPE WOLFYTOM WAS NOT
OFFENDED BY MY ADVICE. PART P IS HERE TO STAY AND I
HOPE IF GUIDANCE FOLLOWED , IT PROTECTS THE PUBLIC
BY ELECTRICIANS FOLLOWING THIER INSTALLATION
GUIDELINES , AND PEOPLE LIKE WOLFYTOM CAN BENEFIT
FROM HAVING A SAFE INSTALLATION .
SPARX ONCE AGAIN I THANK U 4 YOUR INPUT BECAUSE
WE KNOW THE DANGERS THAT ELECTRCITY CAN CREATE
AND IF THE RIGHT ADVICE CAN BE GIVEN THEN WE MUST
DO THE RIGHT THING AND TELL IT HOW IT IS .
THANKS SPARX .

Jeez, I could have saved, not spent money, by buying in a lackie!
That was so funny I've just sprayed red wine through my nose and all over my lappy!

The RCD cost 20 quid and the pull switch 14 - even if I have bought 'em in error, I've saved myself about 500 quid! And my error is to err on the side of caution! Not a bad judgement call.

Sparx, you spend a lot of time on this site - get yourself a holiday, mate!
