Gap in double glazed door

by cupcake74 » Mon Nov 07, 2011 8:53 pm

Hi there hope i explain this so that you can understand.
OK so am renting property with double back doors in the conservatory, at the bottom where they join there is a gap that you can see the garden through. Now one of the doors seems fine, the hinges are fine and even, and the door is straight measured with a spirit level. The other door has been blown back a few times by the wind causing the bottom hinge to come out a few times, the hinge has been reapplied a few times that the holes are too big for the screws so now the hinge has been applied at its tightest point causing the door to be as close to the hinge joint as possible and the adjustment been let out to it's fullest so there is no more adjustment left. the door now does not meet in the middle at the bottom so will not even go in the lock at the bottom, you can see the grass as clear as day and the door is not level on the spirit level. What I would like to know is if I can take the hinge off of the door and frame and move it up or down slightly so there is fresh unscrewed pvc to screw the hinge into so the door can fit when it is closed.
Hope someone can help cause it's getting really cold now.

the 2 doors, main and slave, have hinges with ajustment screws,If the main door has been adjusted to its maximum, you can adjust the slave door to decrease the gap.
To do this you will need an allen key, there is a small plastic gromit on most hinges, that needs removing to gain access to the screw.Do not move it back and forwards excessivly or you will strip the thread.Do it slowly and keep checking till you see the door move,do each hinge in turn till the door is shutting correctly.

from your description you may need to resite either the one hinge or all the hinges to solve this problem . You will then need to repair the holes in the outer frame . the repair can be filled & the repair sprayed to hide it if you wish
