I bought some mains downlighters to fit myself, as I didn't want to worry about Part P. Other than that what are the advantages and disadvantages of mains and low voltage?

Unfortunately the lighting circuit wiring was in such a state, rubber insulated and hard as a rock, I decided a rewire was in order.

I called in a qualified electrician for a quote and he suggested using low voltage lights instead. He'll be fitting them now as part of the whole circuit rewire.

Should I swap the mains ones for low voltage?

Hi misterg, no real differences 20watts is 20 watts wether 240v at low current or 12v at high current, main diffs are limits on distance from transformer if using several lv lights on 1 trnsf. cost more for lv ones with individual trnsfs. but only got 12v at light so slightly safer but personally I won't fit lv ones as too many probs,
