Fitting conservatory blinds...

Hi there, Could someone please tell me how we can correctly fit roller blinds / venetian blinds to the framework of our uPVC conservatory frame. There is a lot of information on the web about fitting blinds, but nothing on fitting them into a conservatory! Do they hook onto the framework; do they ge...

Conservatory heating alternative?

We have a conservatory built on to our terrace. It covers both the kitchen and dining room exit/entrance doors, which have their own double glazed doors. The flue pipe from the condensing boiler goes through the conservatory roof, "to let off some steam" so to speak. This does not cause an...

Regular Switch to Dimmer Switch

We had our house rewired recently and had all the light switches installed as regular light switches, except for the bedroom lights. Our lounge and landing light is a double switch. At the top of the landing we have the landing and bathroom switch as a double. I would however prefer to have the bath...

Telephone junction box & socket?

Hi all, I would like to replace my old telephone junction box & master socket, as the one we have now is old and tatty. Are there telecoms approved DIY sets available on the market, or would I need a telephone engineer to come in and replace it? The junction box, if I am correct is the small one...

Drainage / Plumbing - Conservatory

Hi all, Just to let you know that the problem might be solved. We lifted the laminates, chipped away a bit of the cement-board to reveal the metal plate over the drain. After taking this off, we stuck a rod down the shaft and pulled it back up...to our surprize. When we pulled the rod back up, a pla...

Drainage Plumbing - Conservatory

Our house has a conservatory built onto it. Standing in the conservatory, looking at the kitchen door, you have the kitchen sink downpipe on the left (boxed in) and the bathroom wc & sink (boxed in) to the right. Bothe sets of pipes go underneath the consevatory floor. We don't know where, as we...

Re: Frost on Decking
Any advice on how to cure decking with frost on it please
To find a cure you have to have preventative measures in place. Frost happens when condensation freezes. The only way the reduce the frost on your decking, is to either cover the decking with a tarpaulin at ni...

Kitchen sink backflow & foul smell?

I have this problem with my kitchen sink. It is a one & one half bowl sink, which has a sink & waching machine connection 'S' bend pipe fitted. The problem is that when we drain water from the half bowl sink, it immediately backflows into the main sink & takes ages to drain away. This dr...

Radiator flow direction

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the tip about turning the heat ona and feeling which pipe gets hot. We have the standard iron radiators, not the double convection (or something) type. If I fit thermal valves to them, would I still require the room thermostat and how will this influence the thermal valve?
Thanks

Bathroom laminate

Hi there, I fully agree with you that there is a risk using laminates in the bathroom with the moisture content. We got some laminates from a chain store supplier and they advised us that the floors we had are not ideally suited for a bathroom, but that we can seal the joints by using the glue they ...

Bathroom laminates

When I lay new laminates onto my existing bathroom floor which is wooden floorboards, what do I do when I get to my WC & basin? Do I have to lift my WC & basin to lay the laminates, or do I lay it around, if so, how do I do this?

Kitchen sink backflow problem!

We have been in our house for 5 - 6months now and never had a problem with the water draining out of the kitchen sink...until now! Under the sink we have the usual connections where the washing machine outlet joins the sink catchment pipe (U-bend) where it connects to another connection, connecting ...
