I agree with the post also about the inlet valve. Your inlet valve (float valve entry) may even be clogged up with debris that has buolt up over the years. Thus reducing the flow rate. Try cleaning this out or better still, replacing it. They only cost about 4-5 pounds.

The flow from the Hot water cylinder to the boiler is called the Prmiary flow and return (on an indirect cylinder). Maybe it's also known as the boiler flow and return in some places!!! Anyhow, I was just wondering as I'm trying to learn a bit about central heating basics!

I am not trading as a plumber!! I was just curious about a few things. But anyhow, if wing nuts don't actually hold the cistern to the pan then what exactly is the point of them!?

I know the water is mains pressure (usually 2.5-3 bar pressure), but if it's coming in too slow then what other solution would there be? If the problem is just the cistern being too small, then a larger cistern (230 litres min) will ne required.

if your cistern in the loft is slow to fill, gtrying replacing the float valve seating with a low pressure one (it had a larger orifice) and will allow the cistern to fill quicker. But maybe you just need a larger cistern if it empties too quickly???

GRUNDFOS PUMPS?

The Grundfos central heating pumps that most people have (in the airing cupboards) - are they standard ? Or do you have different wattage, etc for larger properties? What is the standard one to buy for a normal 3-bedroom house? And what pipe exactly does it need to be installed on? Primary Flow??? I...

thanks a lot for your help here. i've learned something new (even though pretty basic really)!! So basically by turning off your gate valve in the loft which supplies the cold feed to the bottom of the hot water cylinder, you shut off the hot water supply! (well after the small amount already in the...

maybe the level in the cistern is higher than normal level and the force of the water is cuaing too much water out through the trap and into the soil pipe all the time?

i would have thought a bloackage would have allowed MORE water to settle in the trap?!!!
