A set of drain rods is the best bet for tackling this problem. These can be purchased relatively cheaply from DIY stores, or hired from a Tool Hire shop, and will certainly be cheaper than calling in Dynorod. While the rods are too rigid to bend around the u-bend, using the 4" flat rubber end p...

While one large radiator will emit the same amount of heat, it will all come from one area of the room. This wiil inevitably result in hot and cold areas within this large room. It is advisable to place a radiator under a window to nullify the cold from the window. Hence the radiator arrangement tha...

I can not see any way to fix this, other than retiling. It may be possible to lift some of the tiles intact if water has loosened the tile cement, but you may well break some. So unless the landlord has some spare left over tiles, you could be looking at re-laying all new tiles. If the burst pipe wa...

Yes you are correct about the waste. However, it may be neater if you can tee into the soil stack on the outside wall of the toilet (assuming it's on an outside wall), rather than in the toilet itself. The water pipework is a little more complicated. If you have high mains pressure cold water and gr...

Hi nclair, I am not sure that you have exactly the same problem as the silky951, as he said tht his pump continued to run, and you say that your fan is running when this problem occurs. Worcester Bosch have a very good website that lists both an e-mail and a telephone technical advice line ( 3p per ...

I am not a heating engineer, but like you I do not believe that a power flush will make any difference to your hot water flow, or the loud clanking. It is unclear from your query if the loud clanking occured immediately after the first engineer had called. If this is the case then he may have left s...

The reason to use a pressure reducing valve in a shower is to correct an imbalance in the pressure of the cold and hot water flows. Typicaly this would be used when you have mains cold and gravity hot flow. With a Combi boiler both the hot and cold are fed under mains pressure, so fitting one of the...

A washing machine should not dsicharge into a soakaway. Soakaways are for rainwater, not household waste. It is certainly worth informing the Council's Building Dept, but they may only confirm that your builder is breaching regulations. The Trading Standards dept may be able to help you more. In ess...

You can buy rubber feet to screw onto the bottom of each leg. They are about 1/4 inch thick and are recessed in the middle so the screw head does not scratch the floor.

I know Homebase sell them, and would expect other chains such as BnQ to also stock them, so should be easy to find.

Hi Paul2463,

If you want to save yourself some money, use vinegar. It is cheaper than descaler. Especially if you use the vinegar from a used jar of pickles.

Hi Stu, The simple answer is to throw them away! Alternatively paint over them. The delicate slats will be a nightmare to sand down. You will have problems getting into the corners and are likely to damage the slats in the process, which is likely to take many hours per door. Louvre doors are not ex...

Hi Emma, The locks on most double glased windows are very basic, and often only have a few key selections. A locksmith to open these would be rather over the top. The best advice is to visit a small local window supplier and ask if he can help. Take a photo of the lock type along with you, so he has...

Hi Berrys, From your description the problem is condensation, and not penetrating damp. So boarding the walls should not be your first choice of remedy. Condensation is caused by too much moisture in the air, ie: moist air that we breathe out, boiling kettles and steam from cooking. Any moisture in ...

Not quite sure why you would have a pressure relief valve on an open vented system ! However, for the pump to intermittently keep running you either have a water flow problem or an failing electrical component. That is why I advised you to check that the boiler pipes cool down a little within a coup...
