Only an idea, but if the wood looks quite dark you could either bleach it first to make it lighter so that when you polish it would not look too dark, or alternativley you could put an opaque finsih on there. This is a clear finish, but with a slight pigment in there to lay over the top and stop the...

1930's Varnish

Now this varnish is a real nightmare and whatever you use its not going to be easy. I believe this varnish is one of the first early hard wearing varnishes, but the longer its on there the harder wearing it seems to be. The only thing I have found that breaks this down is to go over it with a heat g...

X-Tex

Hi I have used the X-Tex many times and it is wonderful. On some applications where the artex has been painted many times i applied it on thick and covered it with cling film and left it overnight. It loosened the paint and i scraped it off with a long handled blade scraper and re-applied which then...

you can try Home Strip paint and varnish remover. It works fine on UPVC and some polycarbonates it can just take the shine off, but out of all the different types of paint strippers this would be the safest, as other strippers have solvent sin which will melt the plastic.

Hi Dan Let me tell you that Caustic Stripping is a good way of getting the paint off your doors, but unfortunately the companies that use this method will immerse your doors for such a long time they will end up saturated with caustic. This will result in the doors probably never drying out in place...

Home Strip paint and varnish remover will remove lead based paints safely as its emulsion formula will encapsulate lead in the paint and keep it wet at all times thus making it safe. Only when dust is made from removing these types of paints or using a heat gun will lead based paints become a hazard...

Topic: Artex removal -how to find out if it contains Asbestos

I would always assume that there is asbestos fibres in the artex and it will save you a fortune in getting it tested. I would not recommend skimming over the artex as you will find that if it does contain asbestos and tougher regulations come into force then you might not be able to sell your proper...
