Restoring oak chairs - rotten/uneven feet & what finish?

Hi, I am trying to restore a few plain oak seats. I have washed them down with sugar soap and fine wire wool which seems to have taken old oil / varnish off. Now not sure what to put on the cleaned wood - oil or varnish? And if so, what brands and techniques should I apply. Also, the chairs spent ma...

leaking bath seal

:( Hello I live in a tenement and my bathroom has been flooded several times this year by my upstairs neighbours. My neighbours bath has a shower over it. The bath is cast iron and the seal between the bath and the wall tiles is just sealant. This keeps splitting and when it does they might as well ...

22mm pipes / 15mm pipes dilemma

Hello Thank you for all of your replies. At the moment I have a gas boiler (Potterton) and a hot and a cold water tank. The water pressure for the old 22mm pipes bath taps was grand. I hear what you say about losing pressure when 15mm pipes is used for a gravity fed system. At some point in the futu...

22mm bath tap pipes

We are replacing a bath. The existing copper water pipes are 22mm. We were expecting the pipes to be 15mm. We now intend to reduce the 22mm to 15mm pipes and then to taps - is this okay? Or are bath taps supposed to be fed by 22mm pipes?
Apologies if this is a daft question.

Positioning a boiler - rules

Hello I am thinking about re-positioning and replacing my gas boiler and would be grateful for guidance. 1. Can a boiler be fixed to lathe and plaster? If not, should the lathe and plaster be removed and a wooden frame attached to the wall for mounting the boiler? 2. Are there any rules re distance ...

Hello Just picking up tips from previous postings... you say:
7. dry trowel once it has gone off to get a nice smooth finish
Might be a daft question but do you actually mean use a towel to dry and smooth the nearly dry plaster?? Or is that too literal an interp...

what do you mean by 'staggering joints'?

sorry but trying to glean info on how to plaster from various related postings... My walls are 3.2m high and was hoping to dot and dab plasterboard onto walls in my bedroom which has very uneven and wonky old horse hair plaster (eg.plaster slopes away at the top of the walls). Think I might 'stagger...

how to get a perfectly flat finish on plastered walls??

Hello My loo has been flooded 3 times in 8 months by my upstairs tenement tenant neighbours. So I have given up sticking the wallpaper back on and have stripped it all off only to find uneven rubbish plaster underneath. I knocked away loose plaster, covered all the walls with pva solution, bought so...

Thank you for your help.
I have looked into both options and have looked closely at the soil pipe and the space surrounding it and I think that there isn't enough room for the strap on boss so will do the other option. Thank you very much for the guidance.

Thank you Terry.
I am sure that disconnecting a loo in a tenement building will be a 'fun' experience... I will be sure to get my boyfriend involved in the work!

Can I fit a new hand basin waste to a toilet soil pipe?

:?
My loo is separate to the showerroom and does not have a sink. So, I was hoping to fit a hand basin and connect the waste pipe to the toilet waste. Is this possible? If so, any top tips would be welcome.

Thank you
