Stuck 55mm nut in Mira shower

My 29 yr old exposed Mira shower, not electric, is leaking, obviously a seal needs replacing somewhere. I have watched the Youtube video on how to do it and have the service kit but cannot shift the 6 sided 55mm nut. Have tried boiling water, hitting with a hammer all round it and penetrating oil bu...

Re: Cold Radiator After Adding new Inhibitor

Me again, saw a possible solution on a web search. Turn boiler off, close all rad valves except cold one, turn boiler back on. Success, gurgle in rad and heated up. Then turned on all the other rad vaves. Relieved it worked.

Cold Radiator After Adding new Inhibitor

Yesterday I emptied the f&e tank in the loft as I had not added any inhibitor since the system was power flushed 9 yrs ago. There has been no problems with the heating since but thought topping up the inhibitor would be beneficial. The tank was full of brown slimy gunk, it took me an hour to cle...

Best Cheap Sander to Take Few mm off of Gate?

I need to take a few mm off the edge of a new side gate that keeps swelling up in the damp and wet weather and jamming the gate. I have already used my 50 yr old b&d with a circular rubber backed attachment a couple of times but it makes so much mess. Would one of the cheap palm sanders or orbit...

Untreated Wooden Gate Swelling in the Wet and Jamming

I had to have a new side gate due to a neighbour having some building work done. He kindly agreed to pay for it and the builders had one made to fit and their carpenter fitted it about 3 months ago. It had some sort of treatment applied and I added a coat of Sadolin extra wood stain. However the gat...

Adjusting UPVC Door Hinges to Stop Door Catching

I have a uPVC back door that is catching on the top 'pin' or whatever it is called. It needs the door raising a couple of mm. I believe the Allen key under the hinge does this, except I have 2 screws under each hinge. See photo. Which do I turn, or both, and which way do I turn them?

Do I Need to Top up With Inhibitor in Central Heating System?

I had our CH system power flushed about 5 years ago. Prior to that I was having to bleed 3 of the upstairs radiators almost daily when heating was on. Since power flush and inhibitor in system I have not had to bleed a single radiator. At this point do I need to add some more inhibitor to the system...

Re: Brass Ring Connector on Oven Element Earth

Thanks kbrownie, after I posted the query I saw that the earth pins on 3 pin plugs have to be brass, not sure why that is though.

Brass Ring Connector on Oven Element Earth

I needed to change a blown oven element on my 21 yr old built in oven. I have struggled as the drop down door won't come off and the earth connector came off as it was corroded up. I got a ring connector and got it crimped on after numerous attempts as the wire is quite short. The problem is the con...

Locating 21.5mm Overflow T-Pieces in Brown

Does anybody know who sells 21.5mm overflow t pieces in brown. I have had my soffits etc replaced, which are brown. The overflow pipes from the 2 loft tanks are brown. I realised that the t pieces for the ends are missing and want to replace them before the winter east winds start to whistle up them...

shower hose not sealing

I have a Mira plumbed in shower which is 18 years old. The shower works fine except for a poor seal where the hose connects to the shower outlet. It leaks water constantly and I cannot get it to seal properly. The rubber washer is in place, I have tried ptfe tape on the threads but that doesn't help...
