anchoring wood panels to wall

I have designed the interior of fitted wardrobes that I am planning to build. The interior includes 3 'side panels' fitted at right angles to the wall which are to be used to break the full width of the space into sections. To anchor these 3 panels to the wall, I am hoping to get three 7 to 8 foot m...

Fuse boxes

I've been told that the old-fashioned fuse boxes are now illegal, and should have been replaced with the 'trip-switch' unit.

Is this true, and if so who is supposed to foot the bill.

House bricks in garden

My garden contains a significant number of standard house bricks, which over time have proved that they are not waterproof / frostproof, as most have now crumbled to varying degrees, and I would like to replace them all as they are not particularly friendly on the eye. I can easily replace those tha...

tiling on wood

I'm attempting to fix some ceramic tiles onto wood - not a good idea I know, but I have some pipework in the bathroom that has been 'hidden' by a wooden surround and I want to tile that surround to match the rest of the room. I have primed the wood with PVA (1 part to 5 parts water), but the ceramic...

I am having problems fixing ceramic tiles to a wooden surface - not a good idea I know, but I have some piping in the bathroom that has been 'hidden' by a wooden surround and I'm trying to tile it to match the rest of the room. Hanging kitchen cupboard doors

I have found the project on hanging kitchen cupboard doors very useful, but there is something I would like to ask which I don't think is covered by the project - I'm pretty sure what the answer is going to be, but I'll ask it anyway. ie. Is there a way of adjusting one corner of the door closer to ...

Shed base not flat

I have recently erected a shed in my garden. For the base I used an area of concrete that had previously (before I lived there) been used as a shed base. Unfortunately, the recent heavy rain has highlighted the fact that the base is not level as the water does not all run away and a large pool build...

Hammerite on brickwork

I want to paint a couple of rows of bricks at the base of the outside walls of my house. Several people have suggested I use Hammerite, but the tin states that it is for metal only. Would I be OK using it on brickwork, or is there a better alternative.

stripping paint from metal

I have some metal windows that have gloss paint on. The previous owner was less than careful when painting the hardwood frames, and there is a lot of paint on the metal. If I was to use a paint stripper (eg Nitromors) on them, presumeably this would strip down to the bare metal, which is not what I ...

Cold water pressure

I have just installed an outside tap, and I am amazed how much this has affected the cold water pressure around the house, even with the tap turned off. It must have reduced the pressure by about 50% everywhere (kitchen, downstairs WC, bathroom). Is there anything I can do to restore it to something...
