try knocking a anail in @ 15 min intervals 1-2" below the top of the skirting line! once u hit a stud they are normally 400 - 450 mm centres apart! if u worried about hitting and services like pipes/ cables get a stud detector

with out looking at the job its hard to say but the joists should of been completley cut out and replaced with new ones! the ends should really go into the wall each end and be bricked in so they dont tilt at all! at the very least a row of noggings/ bridging putt in to stop the joists moving. also ...

all depends on the nose u want on the work top! but if its laminated work type like chipboard in side u will only expose a ruff edge!

when hagging doors or what ever you may be doing, if i have to pilot anything into hard timbers such as oak or close grained hardwood is to pre drill with a drill bit 2 sizes smaller than the screw. i .e if im using 1" 8s i will use a 6 mm drill! but if you have drilled the wholes to big you sh...

hope this helps! so i take it i either live in a masonette or a house that been converted in to flats? easyest optoin in to do it from above! maybe made harder depends on what type of floor u have down! i .e laminate or tiles will be alot more trouble to take up that a bit of carpet n underlay! once...

ring butt hinges

in a response to your questoin u need to put a "leading Edge" aross the whole top of the door! going from nothing to about 3mm or more on the rabate side of the door! same principle that u should have on the hinge and lock side of the door any way if its hung right! hope that helps

u must have a v sharp bit! and only go as deep as u dare go! n make a few passes on the cut! and u should always work from left to right!- same way that u read a book! if your not doing thing no wonder its not working!
and remember to cut the one joint on the back site! i.e turned over!

there are such things as double joist hangers on the market! you can get them from abuilders mercants areound the county! lil jewson etc.... i take it your doubling up the joists for a trimmer for your stairs! the only way u will strugle to find a double hanger is if u have joists like 9 x 3's or an...
