Thanks for all the info. The consumer unit is not being modified and already has RCD protection. The cooker is on its own circuit. It just didnt look right, a flex coming down from the cooker hood, chased into the plaster, exiting out of the wall under the worktop and fitted with a 13A plug to go in...

I am getting a kitchen fitted by one of the big companies who are also undertaking the electrics. They are breaking into the existing ring main to spur off to new sockets for the under worktop appliances. What paperwork / test certificates, if any should I be asking for? 2nd question Am I correct in...

I remember years ago, you could buy plastic covers to fit over the back boxes after the first fix to prevent the Plasterer filling the boxes up with plaster.
Are these still available? anyone know where?

Does anyone know of an integrated vented tumble dryer that [b]doesn't[/b] require the plinth to be cut out for the inlet? There are lots of photos showing a continuous plinth, but when you dig deeper and read the installation instructions, they all require a cutout which spoils the line of the plint...

Did you bleed it with the heating switched off? If not, then the pump can suck air into the system.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with the cable coming from the street into the house. I called the local Electric Board to voice my concern. They came out within half an hour to inspect the cable. The said that underneath the rusty armouring was a lead sheath, which of course would not rust....

Are you sure its not a 3 phase unit? Does it have a rating plate on it giving the voltage?

The bit that confuses me is when you say the wires are joined together.

Have a look at the X10 home automation products.

I solved a similar problem with an X10 SM10E transmitter and AD10 receiver.

I think Macker means 70 deg C on the boiler stat ??

I was always led to believe that the CH water temp should be set at the maximum of 80-82 deg to achieve maximum heating efficiency. Maybe this isn't the case with modern boilers. ?
