Stoneyboy,

thanks for your response, but just to be clear, do you mean the wiring needs to be touching plasterboard (or similar) on one side? i.e. as long as the wiring isn't running through the insulation?

Thanks

Knauf Space Blanket

Anybody have experience of using Knauf SpaceBlanket insultation? Do you really need to make sure all electrical cables are above the insulation?

All wiring in my loft is currently under boarding so can't see the need to do this?

Any advice before I start this job?

Thanks

I sealed our tiles with a crackle-glaze. It now repels water etc and is easily cleaned. You may not need a crackle glaze (depends on your tiles), but i'm sure there will be other types of glaze to use.

New Grout Crumbling

Can anyone advise please. My bathroom was tiled a few weeks back by a professional tiler. The bath surround was boxed and then tiled. Some small areas of grout are crumbling away on the bath side and I'm wanting to repair these areas. The tiler left me some grout (powder) and am hoping someone can t...

Sorry if this is way too late to help, but it sounds like the tiles needed a crackle glaze first. You can apply the glaze before any wet cuts are made and then again before the tiles are grouted and then once more for luck once the grout has dried. This will stop the problem.

I agree with Stoneyboy... if its lime plaster then you'll probably end up re-plastering as before.

I read something recently about adding washing up liquid to your water when soaking paper... anyone else used this method and was it any better?

Sounds like its personal preference, but in the past I have opted to paint the skirting boards first and then touch up anu scuffs etc once the carpet has been fitted... this way you will find it easier to get a clean line between the carpet and the bottom of the skirting board. The alternatives aren...

Hi Eric, The NEFF guy came to look at the oven and it ran without any problems.... typical eh! He thinks that the electrician may have sorted the problem when he checked everything over the other day.... either that, or the oven has had chance to 'dry out' or 'drive the moisture out'. What we also f...

Not sure on this but I had a problem with my electric oven and as well as useful help from users on here, there is also instructions/guidance on this in the Projects section (see top of the forum page).

Thanks Eric, this is helpful as my electrician did explain about the moisture problem also, which makes me more confident in his explanation. My concern was that he was defending his work and blaming the oven. However, as the oven has been in storage this sounds plausible. The NEFF engineer will sor...

Electric Oven / Earthing?

I've just wired my new oven and hob in but when you turn the oven on it runs for a minute or so before it cuts out.... it doesn't trip the RCD. When checking the consumer unit (replaced a month ago) I noticed that the oven is connected to a 32A MCB and the electric hob is connected to a 40A MCB. I c...

It's most likely that its just old plaster... and will need patching or the full wall skimming if you think its loose in other areas. If a steamer is held on an area for too long or the plaster saturated, this can cause the plaster to fall off too. It could also be an indication of damp if its an ex...
