Thanks for your help Welsh Brickie, I have already got the battens so don't really want to change this side of things. Do you think I can get away with gradually reducing the height of each riser by say 5mm on each step using ply? This would then ensure that the finished floor level at the top would...

I am going to really struggle with the batten system as the boards are 25mm thick. Assuming the battens are the same thickness, this would raise the floor by 50mm which I just cannot get away with. May have to glue down! The glue is supposed to be elastic in nature allowing for movement of the board...

Cheers for the prompt reply Welsh Brickie. You don't think there will be any issue with moisture coming up through the fixing points of the battens? I presume you would stay away from the glue down method?

Thanks all for your replies, I should have said the roof is a traditional sarking board and slate (no membranes) so I am assuming from your posts that this should be OK as the roof will be able to breath.
