roll top bath installation 40mm waste fitting

I am installing a roll top bath in a upstairs bathroom, using 40mm chromed pipe. The waste fitting is in several parts each with a olive comperession ring. Any ideas how I can tighten these glands without damaging the crome finish? altenatively are there any plastic or rubber seals that can be used ...

waste pipe combination

I have a basin waste pipe joining the bath waste pipe which then goes into the stack feed pipe. Also off the stack feed pipe is the shower waste pipe.

When the bath empties, am I going to get syphonage problems and or backfeed into the shower base?

any ideas
